Welcome

I would like to welcome you to the AVOID the 30 web site. The program AVOID the 30 is a grant funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, which provides money to bring all 30 agencies within Riverside County together for the common goal of reducing drunk driving collisions. The AVOID program has been around California in different forms for several years now. Here in Riverside County we had our first grant during 2002 - 2003 and found it be very successful. So much so that we asked for and received funding to continue the program for two more years.

The concept of the AVOID program is to organize multiple agencies together to arrest people driving under the influence. The idea of a task force to combat a specific crime that is common to all jurisdictions is not new. There are many drug task forces, and other high crime task forces that draw upon the talents of officers from different agencies. What is unique about our program is the size and scope or our operation. Riverside county is large both geographically and in population. To have an impact we have broken the county into 5 regions with 6 agencies in each region. We then choose a night and each region chooses an area within their region to target. When we go into the field we have 30 to 35 officers on duty across the county dedicated to looking for and arresting people driving under the influence. Last year we removed 327 people from the roadway for driving under the influence.

Enforcement is one part of this grant. Education is the other part. While enforcement is necessary we hope that education will significantly reduce the number of people who drink and drive. This web site is dedicated to help get our message out DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. In here you will find information about DUI's, statistics, real life stories and other important information that may save your life or the life of a loved one.

If you are a member of civic group in Riverside County and would like someone from our grant to come speak at your meeting please contact us admin@avoidthe30.org . We are anxious to get out and spread the word about the dangers of DUI's and how everyone can help make our roads safer.

For law enforcement officers we have a number of pages here that will help you in improving your skills in detecting, documenting and testifying in court on DUI's. Check back often for the latest information on DUI case law and what is happening throughout the state.

Sincerely
Sgt. Doug Cashmore
